Dirty Water

Categories: Civil Rights, Economics, Flint

Today, we briefly examine the Flint Water Crisis-

Among the supreme ironies are these:

In the middle of the state that is known as the ‘Great Lakes State’, surrounded by the LARGEST FRESHWATER SUPPLY in the world, a supply that other states are coveting, the citizens of Flint finds itself bathing in and drinking…DIRTY WATER.

In the middle of the state that is known as the ‘Great Lakes State’, surrounded by the LARGEST FRESHWATER SUPPLY in the world, the citizens of Flint finds itself paying the HIGHEST water rates in the UNITED STATES for… DIRTY WATER.

In the middle of the state that is known as the ‘Great Lakes State’, surrounded by the LARGEST FRESHWATER SUPPLY in the world, up to NINE THOUSAND CHILDREN six years and under have been exposed to this DIRTY WATER in the ‘1st world’ of America – what are the long-term effects of this 3rd world scenario upon these children?

In the middle of what was one of the richest states of one of the richest nations on the face of the earth, the governor decided to pursue an ‘el cheapo’ path to fiscal responsibility- in the quest of saving 20 MILLION dollars, while taking revenue from the city of Detroit, he may end up spending 500 MILLION dollars because of this DIRTY WATER…

In a city (Flint) that as recently as 1990 had the second-highest rate of disposable income, second only to Anchorage, Alaska, now the housing values are plummeting to… what? What about the availability of mortgages? What about the avoidance of Flint by companies and industries? All because of DIRTY WATER.

In a state and a nation that takes pride in the creed of ‘government of the people, by the people, and for the people’ allowed nearly ONE-HUNDRED-THOUSAND of its’ PEOPLE to drink DIRTY WATER… The unintended consequences of institutionalized classism and racism…

Brought to you by… YOUR STATE GOVERNMENT!
