Trump and (some) Evangelicals | The Real John McClane Trump and (some) Evangelicals – The Real John McClane

The Presidential election is now come and gone, and for some of us, the unthinkable has happened, as Donald J Trump has been elected to be the 45th President of these United States. We can do all of the hand-wringing and writhing in agony that we want to, but this is not a dream, and we have to COLLECTIVELY deal with the national bed that has been made…

During this election, we had Evangelicals contorting and twisting themselves into unnatural and perverted positions to support and defend a man’s actions that they would normally decry – if it were anyone else. If Barack Obama had the EXACT SAME LIFE SCENARIO that Donald Trump had, Barack Obama would NEVER been elected President. Why? Because of the ‘Sin of Skin’ – simply a matter of skin, my friend…

One psychologist once had the good sense to write a book, Whatever Became of Sin? Well, to some of my evangelical friends, I ask you a similar question- WHATEVER BECAME OF SIN IN THIS POLITICAL SEASON?  DID GOD HOLD DONALD TRUMP TO A DIFFERENT, LESS STRINGENT STANDARD, THAN SAY, BARACK OBAMA?? Or, Hilary Rodham Clinton?

You THINK that you would’ve been on the wrong side of history with Hilary – my question to you is this:

WHAT WERE YOUR TRUE MOTIVES IN SEEING TRUMP ELECTED?

PRESERVATION OF THIS NATION, OR YOUR PRIMROSE, PRIVILEGED WAY OF LIFE?

Now we have had evangelicals vigorously DEFENDING SIN… wow, who woulda thought?

And, I haven’t seen so much BLIND FAITH in my life… so much faith for such a marred man, yet Hilary seemed to have been BEYOND redemption – really?

If these same evangelicals had prayed for President Obama with HALF the fervor they’re praying for Trump, given Obama ONE-THIRD the GRACE & FAITH that is being shown toward TRUMP, intreated Obama, and had some respect for THEIR President, President Obama may have been a better President and made a few of his decisions differently…

So many of the evangelicals remind me of a woman desperate to marry a man – a particular man that is deemed as ‘marriage material’. And, in spite of that man’s flaws and imperfections which are apparent to so many – a woman deceives herself into thinking that she can change the man after she marries him – but she ends up being so wrong, so very wrong.

Trump has made certain promises to Evangelicals at their intimate gatherings, and many of them are hoping and praying that he will keep those promises – but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t, for Trump is the consummate situational speaker – he says what he needs to say to a situation at hand – he’s better at it than your average or common politician…

If I were to look at many a preacher’s press clippings of yesteryear, I’m certain I would find writings by these preachers castigating the very things that Donald Trump has said, has done, is saying, and doing, during this past political campaign- have we really slid this far down the crevasse of the slippery slope of situational (and political) morality?

On October 17th, I wrote the following in my notes…

“Now, here’s a horrifying thought for many – what IF Trump, somehow, someway,  is elected to the highest office in the land? Is it the end of the world as we know it? Will this hasten the return of Christ?

The tenor and tone of this nation will change, that is for certain. Whether for better or worse, this remains to be seen. If the racists feel further emboldened by Trump’s election, then this country is asking for race wars from within, and the incursion of terrorism from without – with terrorist recruitment efforts going directly to the inner cities (the third world) of America. Trump has made a lot of promises, that will be hard to keep. All of the hopes that half the electorate has invested in him to make their country ‘great’ again, well…

The one thing I know that I will do, is this: If Trump is elected, I will pray for him, as fervently as I did for President Obama, and as I did for President G.W. Bush. I will pray for MY President – yes, you read me correctly. If Donald J Trump is elected, he, at that point, becomes MY President… And, I will pray fervently for him, just as some of you should have prayed fervently for Barack Hussein Obama, during his two terms in the White House…”

And, we’d better pray for the competing advisors that will be the ‘necks’ that turn the head of President-Elect Trump. We better pray that the advisors of wisdom, sanity, and human decency will prevail over the advisors of intolerance and not-so-thinly-veiled racism…
